Handling Rejection

You’ve just lost the big sale. You didn’t get the job. She’s just not that into you. Everyone’s experienced rejection. Rejection is simply a part of life and how your able to handle it will shape your future.

What is Rejection?

Over a year ago I applied for a software job. They had a screening process for prospective employees where I we had to build a relatively simple website. For 2 weeks I gave it everything I had and put more than 50 hours into it. I was excited and I knew it was good. I eagerly awaited for 2 weeks until I got a phone-call. On the call I was told that they were going with someone else and that I made mistakes which they pointed out. They wished me good luck and told me to “Come back next year”. I was crushed. I was certain I would get the job and I believed I did great work. The truth is the website I built wasn’t as good as I thought it was and it hurt.¬†Rejection happens when circumstances don’t meet your expectations. When your expectations aren’t met you’ll experience pain.

The Cure For Rejection

The cure for rejection is action. I believe that whatever you focus on will determine your reality. If you focus on what you’ve lost or what didn’t happen your focus will be on that of the past and pain. Taking action is focusing on the future. I was upset after I was rejected for the position I wanted but I quickly switched my focus to action and began building my next project I quickly forgot the pain I previously experienced from rejection.¬†

Make Overcoming Rejection A Habit

Make it your automatic response to turn a negative in to a positive. Don’t let your past pain stop you from having an abundant future. Get excited about what’s next after being rejected for something. If you make over coming rejection a habit you’ll experience a more fulfilling life.
